The Mosques and Muslim Institutions Federation of Kaathankudy has appealed to the Government Agent of Batticaloa district to put an end to the illegal encroachment of land belonging to Masjidul Firdhous in Muslim Colony, Batticaloa. Few individuals in the area have put up buildings and are using the land unlawfully by using personal influence.
The Mosques Federation in its letter addressed to the GA points out such incidents like this can be detrimental to the co-existence of the three communities especially at a point where after three decades of war, the communities are re-building their lives peacefully together. The letter further insists that the said land is lawfully owned by the Masjidul Firdhous according to Map No. 844 of the Land Survey Department.
The Trustee Boards of Masjidhul Firdhous and Jaamiyul Salam Mosque and the Muslims of the area are genuinely concerned about this issue and the Mosques Federation urgently requests immediate removal of all illegal buildings from the land, the letter further said.
