A powerful time bomb planted in the box of an ice cream seller by the LTTE exploded in the Sainthamaruthu market place killing 35 innocent civilians and injuring 45.

The bomb blast took place at around 10.00 am at a time when the market was filled with vendors and buyers.

This was the first serious attack in the Kalmunai Muslim area by the LTTE, according to officials in Kalmunai.
