An innocent Muslim youth Mohamed Nizar was gunned down at a checkpoint in Palliyagodella allegedly by drunken home guards.

Some Muslim youths travelling in a vehicle were stopped at the Palliyagodella check point and were reported to have been abused by home guards manning the check point. One of the youths Mohamed Nizar who reacted angrily to the unwanted abuse was shot dead by the home guards.

The Police have taken into custody these four home guards. Palliyagodella Muslims protested against this cold blooded murder and this delayed the release of the body for the funeral.

Sadly, this story was given a twist and the media carried the news as the victim being shot at by home guards due to failure to stop at the checkpoint.
