Resettlement of the Mannar people is widely discussed here at present. Last Saturday a high level meeting attended by Hon. Minister Risath Badiudeen, the GA of Mannar and other state officials was held at Thallady Military camp of Mannar. In this meeting there was an agreement reached to resettle the people who were displaced last year due to military operations to clear Musali area from the LTTE. At the moment the initial steps are taken to resettle these people in their places of origin.
The ministry of home affairs and public administration has announced that within next three months time the civil administration will be restored in the cleared areas of Mannar district. A considerable amount of police stations will be established to smoothen this process.
The reconstruction work aimed at to reopen the Puttalam – Mannar high way is underway now. The renovation of Mannar side of this high way is done presently by the army according to some reports.
Reconstruction work of the bridge which joins the island of Mannar with the main land is currently underway. The Japanese builders with the local staff are engaged in this mission.The dissolution of the northwestern provincial council will be delayed according to some latest news reports.
